Bright sparks at electricity gallery
Sparks are flying in the Electricity Gallery at MOSI as visitors get their hands on new interactive games. Children (and adults) can enjoy a range of interactives in the gallery, which opened in 1988 and has just been refurbished.
The interactives have been created from recycled bottles and other materials by MOSI’s in-house technical services team, and include fun demonstrations of electric currents, electrical conductors, and static electricity.
MOSI’s energy curator John Beckerson said: “These interactives help children understand the forces behind electricity. Electricity is endlessly fascinating and we welcome all our visitors to come and take a look again inside one of our oldest galleries and find out more.”
The Electricity Gallery features the history of electricity generation, from the nineteenth century through to the present day. The collections range from small electrical appliances from the 1930s and 1950s to the turbine from Bolton’s Back o’ the Bank Power Station.
The refurbishment included creation of new interactives, extra lighting and cleaning of large objects.
