Christmas festival of performance at MOSI

John DaltonManchester's greatest scientific and industrial achievements will be brought to life at the Christmas markets next week, as part of a range of costumed shows for MOSI’s (Museum of Science & Industry) Christmas festival of performance.

The historic characters will tell their tales at the Christmas market this week to showcase MOSI’s ‘What a Performance! Festival’, which runs from 15-19 December.

The live performances at the Christmas market and the Festival include the pioneering 18th century scientist John Dalton, aviation pioneers Jack Alcock and Lady Sophie Heath, Victorian ladies and gentlemen around the time of the first railway, textile workers, a footballer and even a talking pile of rubbish!

Lady HeathSally Stevens, who plays the part of Lady Heath, and is coordinator of the What a Performance Festival said:

“The Museum has a range of costumed presenters who act out the characters from Manchester’s scientific and industrial past. It’s a great way to learn about some of our most innovative minds complete with some fascinating anecdotal details – and have a mulled wine while you watch!

“It’s the first time we’ve brought out the characters into the Christmas markets, so you’ll be able to get a taster of the festival later this month if you come along to one of our performances at the market this week.”

MOSI’s costumed characters will appear at the Christmas markets on 1, 4, 5 December, between 2-4pm, and on 10 December between 10am-12pm and 2-4pm. The media are invited to MOSI’s performance of the costumed character John Dalton at 2pm on Monday 1 December. Meet at the Town Hall steps, Albert Square.

The What a Performance Festival runs at MOSI, Castlefield between 15-19 December, with free performances throughout the day between 10am-4.30pm. www.mosi.org.uk
