Fly back in time to historic tea dance
MOSI’s Air & Space Hall will be transformed into an elegant 1940s tea dance next week, as part of the Manchester-wide Full of Life Festival (27 September – 10 October). Guests to the free (but booked) event on 30 September are invited to drift back in time to the age of flight, as some of Manchester’s aviation pioneers tell their stories over afternoon tea, with music and dancing by GI Jive and Erin Parker.
The event must be booked in advance and is one of a programme of free activities particularly aimed at older adults. It also includes a talk by RSPB about how to make your garden a ‘wildlife hotel’ and a tour of Manchester Jewish Museum in connection with MOSI’s new exhibition about the Jewish community and waterproofing companies, The Waterproof People, There is also a display of collection items in connection with Manchester’s brewing industry.
MOSI director Tony Hill said: “The Air and Space Hall is a former Victorian market hall so it’s wonderfully atmospheric place for an event. It includes lots of fascinating aeroplanes and cars from throughout the last century and earlier, so some older visitors may remember when they were in use. Please do take advantage of these free events aimed at older adults, as part of the city-wide Full of Life Festival.”
