MOSI fights for lost cash
Senior managers and Trustees from MOSI travelled to the House of Commons on May 12 to lobby for a full refund of their money lost in the Icelandic banking collapse.
Museum Director, Steve Davies MBE and his management team attended a meeting hosted by Manchester Central MP, Tony Lloyd to press for charities, including MOSI, to get all their cash back.
Mr Davies explained: “The Treasury Select Committee has reviewed the matter and recommended that, in this instance, charities should be treated as special cases and compensated fully for their losses.
“An Early Day Motion, signed by eight members of the committee and three other MPs, including Graham Brady, MP for Altrincham and Sale West has given the government until June 4 to make a decision. We are lobbying hard to press our case and keep the pressure on to make our voice heard,” he concluded.
MOSI, which is one of Manchester’s leading tourism attractions, lost £900,000 in last year’s banking crisis. The money, although not part of the museum’s core funds, had been earmarked for developing the vitally important educational programme which serves 100,000 schoolchildren every year, and the refurbishment of the main building, a key first step in delivering the Revolution MOSI development.
