MOSI wins Large Visitor Attraction of the Year

MOSI has won the Large Visitor Attraction of the Year in the Manchester Tourism Awards. The judges praised the high quality of MOSI's permanent collections and special exhibitions as well as excellent customer service levels.

The award comes following the opening in January this year of a £9m redevelopment of the Museum's Great Western Warehouse, including two galleries, a new Conference Centre and Learning Loft, catering facilities and a new gift shop. The new Revolution Manchester gallery, which acts as a gateway to the Museum's permanent collections, includes the UK's largest indoor media wall, and a unique digital chandelier where visitors can see their own photograph appear. There are also a series of interactive games to help interpret iconic collections items such as the Baby computer (the world's first computer) and the ZETA model - a Manchester-based experiment into nuclear fusion.

MOSI Director Tony Hill said: "This is fantastic news. We've worked so hard to redevelop MOSI and to provide world class service levels, and it's wonderful to get this public recognition. The new Revolution Manchester gallery showcases Manchester's greatest innovations and we now have a new interactive science gallery, Experiment, as well as dedicated learning and conference facilities, a new restaurant and coffee shop and gift shop."
