Science buskers strut their stuff in Shanghai
A team of six educational staff from MOSI (Museum of Science & Industry, Manchester) and the Manchester Science Festival will travel to the Shanghai International Science and Arts exhibition next week to demonstrate the recently developed art of ‘science busking’.
Science busking is a regular feature of the Museum programme and will be seen throughout the city at the annual, upcoming Manchester Science Festival, during 23-31 October. The science buskers will perform science demonstrations about sound that can be done with simple items - such as a bowl which sings and makes water jump due to vibrations, straws which make a tune when cut to different lengths and oven racks.
MOSI representatives from the Museum’s Learning department and the Manchester Science Festival, will showcase the Museum’s science busking skills at the international exhibition, which runs from 26-31 May. They have been invited as special guests of the Shanghai Association for Science and Technology, which sent its own representatives to the Manchester Science Festival last year.
MOSI is also partnered with the China Science and Technology in Beijing.
Natalie Ireland, Director of the Manchester Science Festival said: "We're heading to China to share the best of science in Manchester with visitors to the Shanghai International Science and Arts Exhibition. It’s a great opportunity to see some really exciting and cutting-edge science and technology, share ideas and bring the best of science in Shanghai to the Manchester Science Festival in October. We'll be tweeting, blogging and posting pictures and videos while we're there so do follow us online to see what we're up to!".
