Places information sheets
Many places in the Manchester have some sort of association with industrial or scientific developments. These information sheets spotlight the special character of some such places, the most notable being Liverpool Road Station, home of MoSI. With two Grade I listed buildings, two Grade II listed buildings and two Grade II listed viaducts, Liverpool Road Station is a historic site of world significance.
Two parts of Greater Manchester that have particularly strong links to the Museum's collections are East Manchester and Trafford Park. From the mid-nineteenth century to the late twentieth century, East Manchester was the location of many of Manchester's largest engineering works.Companies such as Crossley Brothers, Richard Johnson Nephew and Mather & Platt were major employers for many years. Trafford Park became an industrial estate in 1896 and attracted new businesses, including American companies such as Westinghouse and Ford.
