Recent acquisitions

In 2011, MOSI acquired 'Electric Blue', the world's fastest milk float. Electric Blue began life in 1969 as a Morrison Type F, made in Birmingham. It was used on milk rounds in Birmingham and Leicestershire until 2000. Chloride Motive Power of Bolton, provided batteries and Curtis Electronics of Leicester supplied other electrical parts to help Kevin Bourne create the world's fastest milk float - with a top speed of 118 km/h (71 mph). Electric Blue is now displayed in the Air & Space Hall.

Richard Johnson portraitGood fortune favoured us in 2010 when we were offered two items relevant to the Engineering section of the Revolution Manchester Gallery. Both items relate to Richard Johnson & Nephew, a company that operated a wire works in the Bradford district of east Manchester for more than a century. A photograph of the portrait of Richard Johnson, shown here, was used on a graphic panel in the Gallery. The second item, a presentation case of cable dies given to a long-serving employee, is displayed in the Gallery.
