Using the archives
The Museum holds the archives of some of
Manchester's most famous companies, including Beyer, Peacock &
Co., Ferranti, Metropolitan-Vickers, Linotype & Machinery,
Mather & Platt, and Factory Records. We also hold national
collections, such as the Electricity Council Archive. The material
includes company minute books, order books, textile sample books,
letters, engineering drawings, photographs, films and oral history
recordings.
The
archive collections are kept in the Collections Centre. You don't
need an appointment during normal Study Area opening hours, but, if
you have a specific interest, getting in touch in advance would
help us to provide a better service. We can also provide some
services if you are unable to visit, but we cannot undertake
research on your behalf. Photocopying services are available for a
small charge, subject to copyright status.
