Early Years Foundation Stage
Our classroom and gallery sessions for young children are closely linked to the Early Years Foundation Stage and are led by members of our experienced learning team.
Advanced booking is essential for both free and charged sessions. Phone us on 0161 833 0027 to check availability and make a provisional booking. We will then ask you to complete a booking form.
Xperitots 0 - 4 years
Play together, learn together. Have fun in Xperitots, our monthly, hands-on session for under 5s and their carers. Toys, building activities, dressing up, craft, music, puppets and storytelling help you and your little ones get the most from Xperiment.
10.00am first Wednesday every month (except August).
Duration 90 minutes.
£1.00 per child.

Space Adventure 3 - 5 years
Join Baby Bear in our Planetarium for a journey to the moon. Try on a space helmet, touch a space suit, and wonder at the night sky. Duration 30 mins.

Fabric Fun 3 - 5 years
Join Baa Baa and Tilly the puppets for stories, singing and fun fabric activities in our Textiles Gallery.

Engineer Eric's Difficult Day 3 - 5 years
Visit the Power Hall to meet Engineer Eric and Forgetful Fireman Fred. Help them to start Pender, our Victorian steam locomotive.
11.00am and 1.30pm term time weekdays.
Duration 25 minutes.
£45 per session. Max. 30 children.
Activity Tots 0 - 4 years
A fun-filled activity session. Puzzles, water play, costumes, discovery, craft, stories and singing introduce themes from the Museum.

Who's Afraid of the Dark? 3 - 5 years
Plop the owl is afraid of the dark. After briefly looking at a range of light sources, the children learn about electricity in this classroom session by constructing and combining simple circuits to make a light for him.

Light and Colour 3 - 5 years
Explore rainbows, mirrors, shadows and colour-mixing through exciting discovery activities in this classroom session. Join in with our interactive story and songs.

Wheels 3 - 5 years
An action-packed classroom session involving our miniature classic car, puppets, water wheels, pulley wheels, car and bike wheels followed by lots of exciting activities. Combine the session with a visit to the Power Hall to see wheels in action.

SSh, Ssh, Click 3 - 5 years
An exciting new session involving music, movement and drumming in the Power Hall. Children explore the world's largest collection of working steam engines to find ideas for their own musical compositions. Percussion instruments, including drums, are used to create simple machine songs.
