Midland Hotel

Situated in the heart of the city centre, the Midland Hotel has a rich and illustrious heritage, making it a perfect partner for MOSI and the Manchester Science Festival - adding to the North West's glorious history of industry, engineering and innovation.

Built in 1898-1903 for the Midland Railway Company, it is situated near to Manchester Central (formerly Manchester Central railway station) and was regularly used by American cotton traders whilst they were on business selling their raw cotton to Lancashire cotton cloth manufacturers. However, the Midland is perhaps most famous for being the meeting place of Charles Stewart Rolls and Frederick Henry Royce, leading to the formation of Rolls-Royce Limited in 1906.

During MSF 2011, MOSI's Singing Scientists (Dalton, Perkin and Lovell) performed live for guests in the Midland foyer, bringing to life some of Manchester's scientific past in one of Manchester's most significant buildings. As part of MSF 2012, the Midland Hotel will be hosting some of the key Festival events, which will be confirmed in summer 2012.
