Visiting for the first time
There is so much to see and do on your first visit to MOSI - make sure you get the most out of your day by giving yourself plenty of time to explore. We would recommend at least a full morning or afternoon, but you'll be surprised how quickly the time goes once you immerse yourself in Manchester's fascinating history.
From the world's first industrial city to 24-hour party capital, MOSI takes you on a journey through Manchester's heritage with sights, sounds and even smells! You can see what it was like to work in a cotton mill during one of our textile demonstrations, see one of the world's largest collections of working steam mill engines or even venture into a Victorian sewer…
If you can't decide what to see first, check out our favourites here.
Manchester is also a great place for guided tours, some of which start or end at MOSI. For more information click here or take a look at the websites on the right hand side of the page.

Entry to the Museum is free, but please help us to stay this way by making a voluntary donation of £3.
Please note that MOSI is a completely non-smoking site. This applies to all areas, including the open air upper and lower parts of the site and the paved area directly outside the front entrance.
We have a number of lockers situated in the basement of the Great Western Warehouse, suitable for bags, rucksacks and small suitcases. There is a £1 refundable charge for these. All items are left there at the visitor's own risk; MOSI cannot be held liable for any items lost, damaged or stolen.
- Children under 16 are more than welcome at MOSI but must be accompanied by an adult.
- Wear comfortable shoes and bring an umbrella - it's a fairly big site (and this is Manchester!).
- Please feel free to take photographs around the museum, for private use, to remember your visit. For commercial photography, please contact our Press Office.
