Our main entrance is on Lower Byrom Street. This takes you straight into the Great Western Warehouse and to our information desk – the ideal starting point for your visit.
Arriving by train
Our nearest railway station is Deansgate, which you can get to via Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Oxford Road railway stations.
Whether your train into the city takes you to Manchester Victoria, Manchester Oxford Road or Manchester Piccadilly, you can get to us on foot, or by taking the free Metroshuttle city bus.
Arriving by free city bus (Metroshuttle)
The free Metroshuttle number 2 bus (green line) stops right outside the museum on Lower Byrom Street, however all 3 Metroshuttle services stop nearby on Byrom Street in Spinningfields.
Arriving by tram (Metrolink)
Our nearest Metrolink stop is Deansgate-Castlefield, which is serviced by all tram routes EXCEPT for:
Bury – Abraham Moss (blue line)
Cornbrook – MediaCityUK (brown line)
There's currently no step-free access at the Deansgate-Castlefield tram stop. If you need a step-free route to the museum on the tram network, we recommend using St Peter's Square instead.
Arriving by bicycle / motorbike
There is limited parking for bicycles on Lower Byrom Street near the main entrance, and on-site in our upper yard (between the Power Hall and the Great Western Warehouse). Access to our on-site cycle parking is via Water Street and through the customer car park.
There is limited free parking for motorbikes in our car park.
Arriving by car
Liverpool Road is currently closed for maintenance, but you can still get access Lower Byrom Street via Quay Street.
If you're travelling into the city from the motorway, head towards Manchester and look out for the brown tourist signs directing you to the Museum of Science & Industry.
Our car park is open from 8.30am - 6pm Monday to Friday, and from 9.50am - 6pm on Saturday and Sunday. We charge £4.50 for the day.
Disabled car parking
There are 2 spaces for Blue Badge holders on Lower Byrom Street next to our main entrance.
