Thin Air

Doors at 7pm. Show starts at 7.30pm, and ends at approx 10pm. There will be an interval, with refreshments available.

A young man's dream of flight has ghostly consequences. Set in the shadow of two world wars, this haunting family saga is a tale of ambition and secrets and passions unspent.

Written by Berlie Doherty and directed by Joyce Branagh, this fascinating production will be taking place in MOSI's atmospheric Revolution Manchester Gallery, with the stunning replica Avro F as a backdrop to the evening.

Berlie Doherty is a highly acclaimed and prolific writer with an international reputation, who lives and works in the beautiful Derbyshire Peak District.  She has twice won the Carnegie Medal for Literature (Granny was a Buffer Girl and Dear Nobody- both of which have been adapted for stage, TV and radio).  Her novel Street Child is enjoyed in many schools and a new stage adaptation by Cotton Grass Theatre recently completed a very successful tour. Thin Air is a new piece, commissioned by Cotton Grass, inspired by the haunting landscape and mythology of the Peak District and its associations with the rich history of aviation (see www.berliedoherty.com).

Joyce is a Writer/Director living and working in the North West.  Directing includes productions at: Harrogate Theatre Royal, Bristol Old Vic, Cork Opera House, Orange Tree Theatre, Watford Palace and Oldham Coliseum.  Writing includes: Dick Whittington, Jack & the Beanstalk, Watford Palace Theatre; Peggy and the Spaceman, and Sheepish for Manchester 24:7 Theatre Festival; and For the Record for Forest Forge Theatre Company.  She was the Literary Director at Watford Palace, and has worked as a dramaturg with individual writers and for various writing projects throughout the UK.

Tickets £15 & £12 concs. Available on line from www.wegottickets.com or call 07972 145 977. Suitable for ages 14 years and above.

Audience comment

We thought every aspect of the drama was superb, the writing, the acting, the ingeniousness props and the use thereof... There were magical moments in your performance and we cannot think of any single thing we would have altered.
